Tips for an Effective Instruction Experience |
- Selecting Topics: Give a variety of topics so your students will each have a chance to locate unique materials. Giving a choice of topic also allows the student to individualize his or her research experience. It also helps a great deal if you make sure the topics are assigned in advance of the library instruction session so the librarian can work with the students using the sources most appropriate to their subject matter.
- Identifying Sources: What resources in our library can your students use to find information for your particular assignment? What types of information sources do you prefer your student to use? Are there any types of sources you will not allow your students to use? How many information sources do you plan to require for the assignment?
- Scheduling a Session: Use the Library’s Online Instruction Forms to schedule a session for your class. Research takes time, so make sure you schedule your session at least a week in advance of the assignment due date.
- Partnering with the Librarian: Be sure and attend the library instruction session with your class. By participating in the session along with the librarian, you are insuring that your students have a clearer idea of the assignment and their research requirements.
If you would like any help in designing a research assignment or selecting resources for your planned research assignment, please do not hesitate to contact us in the Instruction Department, 425-2279.
