CHIEF SECRETARY’S LODGE,

PHOENIX PARK,

DUBLIN.

Jan. 27/82

My dear general Wilder,

I owe you a more sincere apology for not having earlier thanked you for your note sending me the invitations to the meeting of the two armies at Chattanooga.

It was much pleasant & (illegible) to me to be reminded of my (illegible) to you & to hear this proof of hearty reconciliation of old foes, but you will not be surprised at my saying that day after day I have found my work here so pressing that I have hardly been able to write any letters not absolutely necessary.

I leave Ireland for the (illegible) tonight.

Hoping to see you in London if & when you come to England.

I remain

Your own sincerely

M. L. Fenter
