Camp Wickliffe, KY Jan 18, 62 My Dear Wife I have not written you for some time as I have been quite sick with pneumonia, was taken New Years day. Am not yet quite able for duty, expect to be able by Monday to resume work. We are lying still here and no prospect for a (sic) advance on the enemy. Our men are about half fit for duty, balance sick. This is the unhealthiest camp I have ever seen, Western Va. no comparison to it. Col. Hascall an (sic) Ed Kersttettex are home on sick leave. The 15th Id. had but 64 men fit for duty the other day, we hope to move about 12 miles towards Green River to a sandy camp ground, where we hope to have better health. I send this by Dr. Witt, he has resigned his position as surgeon. I received your letter enclosing one from Sister Lib, was glad to hear from them, Jake is appointed Captain of Co B. 17th, Jim Anderson 2nd Lieut. Co I, Jack Stewart 1st Lieut, Co G. so you see I have some influence for my friends. Wish you would let Mr. Geo. Anderson know of his son’s Promotion, Jim has been officially notified — hoping to hear from you soon. I remain as ever your faithful husband
