Dear Wilder:

Your welcome letter of 18^th inst. was recd, yesterday and gave me the first information I had received of the movement on Chattanooga. Your many friends here rejoice to know that “Intrepid Old Wilder” has a hand in it and is in the lead! They feel that something is bound to turn up and that the honor of Hoosierdom will be safe in your hands. The dispatches of yesterday afternoon confirm your letter and more too! I send you inclosed (sic) the Journal of this morning. Did you get the letter and documents I sent you a few days ago in reference to your promotion? They will be interesting to you. All well here, and beg to be remembered.
