University Photographs- The Presidents and Chancellors of the University PDF Print E-mail
The University was founded in 1886, as Chattanooga University. In 1889 the University merged with US Grant University in Athens, Tennessee, forming two campuses of Grant University- the Athens campus and the Chattanooga Campus. Since the University was founded with help from the Methodist Church many of the first presidents were Methodist ministers. In 1907 the Chattanooga campus of Grant University broke away from Grant University and became the University of Chattanooga. It remained this until the merger with the University of Tennessee system in 1969, becoming the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
