Book Collection: The Lupton Library houses a circulating book collection of nearly 500,000 volumes. Arranged by Library of Congress call numbers, the circulating book collection is located on open shelves on the 3rd floor. As with all of the Library's materials, the circulating book collection exists primarily to support the University's teaching and research programs, although a variety of popular works is also available. Check the online catalog to see if we own a particular book. Eligible user groups may check out circulating books. Reference Collection: Located on the 1st floor of the Lupton Library, the reference collection provides both basic and in-depth information tools in the social sciences, the humanities, and the pure sciences. The collection supports both undergraduate and master's degree programs offered by the University. Periodical Collection: Periodicals are library materials that are published on a regular or periodic basis such as scholarly journals, newspapers, magazines, and annual publications. The majority of periodicals are housed on the 2nd floor of Lupton Library. Older periodicals from before 1950 are located on the 3rd floor. Recently received newspapers are located on the 1st floor. The exact location of the specific volume or issue you need is determined from the Library's online catalog. The Library currently subscribes to over 1,300 print periodicals, including newspapers. These titles have been selected by the faculty to support the current teaching and research programs of UTC. The Library also provides access to thousands of online full-text journals through its website. Use the Journals by Title list to locate a specific title in our online full text collection. To search for articles on a particular subject, use one of our electronic databases. Click here for help beginning your research. Audiovisual Collection: The audiovisual collection is housed on the 1st floor of Lupton Library. Cds are located in wooden racks to the left of the Reference Desk as you enter the Library. Videos and DVDs are located on open shelves just behind the computer workstation area to the right of the Reference Desk. Call numbers for items in these collections can be found in the Library's online catalog. Microfilm and Microfiche Collection: Microfilm and microfiche are located on the 2nd floor of Lupton Library. Viewers and printers for the microfiche and microfilm collections are located at the far right hand end of the 2nd floor. Users can ask for assistance at the service desk located at the top of the stairs on the 2nd floor. Special Collections: The Special Collections department is located on the 2nd floor of the Lupton Library. This collection consists of the archives for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, the Manuscript and Personal Papers Collection, the Rare Book Collections and other items including artwork. The Fellowship of Southern Writers collection is also maintained by the Special Collections, and is located on the Library's 1st floor. Due to their rare or special nature, items in the Library's Special Collections may not be borrowed. In order to view materials in pecial Collections, users must make an appointment.
